Liz Murphy
Working alongside the commonly found opinions that art is a closed topic to those who lack prior training or incite or that the actions of artists have little social worth or function; I endeavour to highlight that when encountering a work of art, the roles of artist and spectator are not mutually exclusive.
My work invites the spectator to create narratives drawn from suggestions laid within the work, involving the audience in the creative process in turn giving a claim to the works authorship.
When choosing mediums and settings for my work I continue to take into consideration how these elements can further dissolve the potential for isolating the viewer. Using objects we are familiar with in the 'everyday' creates an atmosphere of confidence, born from familiarity, when dealing with the work.
